The main journey here is around Manasalu, reaching north of the Himalayas and circling the great Manasalu-Himalchuli-Buddha massif. Since Manasalu is a special area for trekkers and was only officially opened from 1991 onwards for trekking. Since then, the region has been opened up for organized groups. The major trekking seasons are between March-May and September-November. It needs special permits. Three-week complete treks will give you an exciting, adventurous and once in a life time experience. The seven Villages Development Committees (the smallest political unit) within the conservation area are: Sama, Lho, Prok, Bihi, Chumchet, Chhekampar and Sirdibas covering 1,663sq.km. Over 9,000 local inhabitants reside here and their main occupation is marginal agriculture, animal husbandry and seasonal migration for labor and trade during the winter months.
